Fellowship in Endometriosis, Menstrual Disorders, and Advanced Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery

Fellowship Description:
This one-year fellowship-training program provides fellows with extensive experience in the comprehensive diagnosis and minimally invasive surgical management of the full range of menstrual disorders, with a strong focus on Endometriosis, Fibroids, and Abnormal Uterine Bleeding. The experience and education provided will equip the fellow with the skills necessary to accurately diagnose and treat the full spectrum of advanced benign gynecologic conditions.
Diagnostic training focuses on advanced office gynecologic ultrasound and office hysteroscopy, while surgical management includes the full spectrum of minimally invasive surgery, including:
- Operative hysteroscopy
- Mini-micro laparoscopy
- Advanced robotic surgery techniques
Office procedures are performed two days per week, including 30–40 ultrasounds and procedures weekly, while operating room experience occurs two to three days per week. Surgical volume includes multiple advanced endometriosis surgeries weekly and dedicated experience in mini-micro laparoscopy and hybrid minimally invasive techniques.
The fellowship emphasizes fertility-preserving surgery, including:
- CO₂ laser excision techniques
- Advanced robotic approaches
- Mini-micro and hybrid laparoscopy
- Operative hysteroscopy
A multidisciplinary surgical model with collaboration from colorectal surgery, gastroenterology, and urology provides fellows with individualized exposure based on educational goals. Rotations include:
- Direct observation of patient counseling
- Preoperative ultrasound and surgical planning
- Candidate selection for minimally invasive procedures
Post-operative management includes treatment of:
- Chronic pelvic pain
- Infertility related to endometriosis
- Pelvic floor and nerve dysfunction
- Sexual dysfunction
Training emphasizes preoperative assessment and multidisciplinary planning for deep infiltrating endometriosis and advanced-stage disease with multi-organ involvement. Fellows also gain expertise in:
- Advanced leiomyoma management and myomectomy
- Laparoscopic hysterectomy for definitive treatment
- Infertility and ovarian pathology
- Interstitial cystitis
- Hysteroscopy, cystoscopy, proctoscopy, and pelvic ultrasonography
Research and Academic Development
Protected academic and research time is provided.
Participation in scientific research and publication is expected.
Fellows are encouraged to attend:
- AAGL Annual Meeting
- Society of Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeons (SLS) Annual Meeting
The program includes access to virtual reality laparoscopic and hysteroscopic simulators with haptic feedback, enhancing:
- Surgical skill acquisition
- Technical innovation
- Surgical education methodologies
Eligibility and Application
- Applicants must be board-eligible or board-certified OB/GYN physicians with MIGS experience who wish to focus on endometriosis.
- Moonlighting is permitted
