Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons appoints new president
The Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, which advocates for minimally invasive surgery, has chosen Dr. Jay Redan as its next president.
Redan, 54, is a general surgeon and medical director of minimally invasive surgery at Florida Hospital-Celebration Health in Kissimmee. He will be the Miami-based organization’s 22nd president, replacing Dr. Robert Sweet, a urologic surgeon.
During his year-long term at the society’s helm, Redan said he plans to address the cost-effectiveness of surgeries in the U.S. and explore the potential benefits the laparoscopic surgery community can gain from the increased use of telemedicine technologies.
Redan, who is also an associate professor of surgery at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, took office in late October.
